U.S. Women's 2020 Olympic Team

Simone Biles

The reigning Olympic all-around, vault, and floor champion is at the top of her game and is still unstoppable five years after her first Olympic Games in Rio. Biles is the indisputable leader of this team and the U.S.'s best chance at a medal on almost every event. Repeat gold in the all-around and on vault and floor are practically guaranteed as long as she hits, and another beam medal is also within the realm of possibility (she earned bronze in 2016 after a major error kept her from gold). If Biles has an exceptional day on bars in qualifications, she could also qualify to that final.

Sunisa Lee

Three-time World medalist Sunisa "Suni" Lee is one of the best all-arounders in the world, but she's undeniably one of the, if not the best, bars worker that will be in Tokyo. After earning bronze on bars (and silver on floor) at Worlds in 2019, Lee will look to bolster the U.S. women's team score on its way to Olympic gold while also striving for an individual gold on bars. Lee's floor and beam are also outstanding, with her only "weak" event coming on vault.

Jordan Chiles

Biles' World Champions Centre teammate Jordan Chiles has been a senior elite since 2017, but the closest she's gotten to competing at a World Championships (the equivalent of the Olympic Games in a non-Olympic year) was serving as the non-traveling alternate in 2017. Fast forward to 2021, two years after she moved across the country to train with Biles, and Chiles has cemented herself as one of the U.S.'s top 3 all-arounders alongside Biles and Lee. Miss Consistent, Chiles always hits her routines cleanly and with an impressive level of difficulty. Chiles is peaking at the right time. Tokyo is her moment.

Grace McCallum

Two-time World team gold medalist Grace McCallum rounds out the 4-person U.S. women's team. McCallum is one of the most experienced U.S. women this quad, and despite having struggled on vault and bars at meets earlier this year, she's been consistent on beam and contributes solid numbers across the board as a true all-arounder.

Jade Carey

Jade Carey is one of two individuals representing the U.S. in Tokyo. Carey, who qualified a spot for herself via the Individual Apparatus World Cup series, is expected to compete the all-around during qualifications in Tokyo, but her best medal opportunities come on vault and floor. On floor, she could become the first woman to successfully compete a laid-out triple double – what would be "The Carey" – in Tokyo.

Riley McCusker

Carey's Arizona Sunrays teammate Riley McCusker earned the U.S.'s final individual specialist spot at Olympic Trials in late June. McCusker is typically a strong all-arounder and was expected to compete for a spot on the main team just a couple of months ago, but she injured her ankle at the GK U.S. Classic in May and has since had to limit herself to just bars. In Tokyo, she could add beam or, if her ankle is feeling 100%, she could choose to compete in the all-around.
